10 Happy Things for November

HAPPY NOVEMBER!

Is everyone loving this wonderful, cool weather? Perfect for firepits and long dog walks. There's so much to be thankful for right now.

Ugh, I can't continue without acknowledging how hard things are - so many dead in Israel and Gaza. (Can we please take a minute to acknowledge the helpers?)

And, as some of you already know, our family had a tough month (thank you for all the cards, texts, and even a gift box! and a porch makeover!) - we're working with a great team of doctors and feeling hopeful.

But I digress, let's stick with happy for a few minutes. Okay?

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------
1. How great does pretzel salad with jello sound? (Reminds me of childhood).

Also, three fabulous no prep menus.
-------

2. 25 New Novels for Fall. Plus, a vast range of books on the middle east.

Further, currently Reading. Watching. Listening.

Also, in case you missed it - here's a link to my most recent Reading, Watching, Listening post (full of recs).
-------

3. A life richly lived.
------

4. I'm a little obsessed with these paintings.
(“That’s the kind of subject matter I love the most, always has been, probably always will be: the kind of thing that never seemed worth noting until you looked at it for a while longer and realized, maybe it was." - Pat Perry)

Also, this art exhibit in Lisbon looks amazing.
-------

5. I recently blogged some new wedding, engagement and family sessions. Click here to check it all out (if you're considering hiring me as a photographer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND perusing my work first).
-------

6. How to officiate a wedding (great advice).
-------

7. Believe it or not, these patches totally work (I'm addicted). Also, loving this product for dry skin.

Further, a client recently had the most gorgeous, natural looking eyelashes, I asked how she got them and she sent me this link.
-------

8. DC area hike/drink combos.

And, if you're looking for something different (and fun) to do this fall - try Beat the Bomb (we had a blast)!
-------

9. One of the most beautiful things I've ever read.  ("Everything is change, he said, and everything is connected. Also everything returns, but what returns is not what went away.")
------

10. Apparently most of my favorite novels are "just vibes".

BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENT -
2% OF MY NET PROFITS FROM 2023 WILL GO TO THE ACLU & PLANNED PARENTHOOD

I'm not sure how to make any sort of difference in the world, but at the very least, I can start publicly giving money to causes I care about. I know 2% isn't a ton of money, but at least it's a start.

Do you have causes you care about? This is a reminder that I offer a pay-it-forward discount for families (see question #22) where you receive $50 off the cost of your session if you give the money to charity.

I also offer a similar, but larger discount for weddings clients. Contact me for details.

RECENT REVIEWS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

Darcy is an absolute magician!! We booked a session with her to capture memories with our 12 month old, and he was getting over a cold and generally not feeling 100%. But you would never know from the photos!! They are truly magical and completely captured his happy/smiley essence (even though it didn’t seem like he was in the best mood during the session). The family photos are beyond what I was hoping for and we’ll cherish them forever. In fact, we’ve already booked another session with Darcy! - Kara

Darcy has a way of capturing images you thought were impossible in the most profound and perfect way. She seems to always know the best method to get you and your loved ones into the right lighting, position, and mood to capture the exact moment you want in a photo. She photographed both my wedding and, months later, a series for my family, and they have become some of the best and most amazing and beloved pictures we have. You can get photos taken by so many people in this area, but, when you need it to be done right by someone who is unceasingly kind and deeply cares about you getting what you want, Darcy is the only person to contact. - Adam

Darcy is a gem of a person to work with. Not only is she a gifted photographer, she is also really skilled with working with people to craft truly beautiful photos. She has photographed my family multiple times, and every time I am thrilled with the outcome. Darcy is great with kids and older people…and those of us in between. She listens to what you want from your session, and she works really hard to make that vision come to life. Darcy also has a great way of building on your ideas to really capture the moment. I am so grateful for her skills and her wonderful personality, she is easy to work with, always on time and prepared. And, her photos are beautiful. I highly recommend Darcy. - Jessie
