10 Happy Things for June

HAPPY JUNE!!

I cannot wait for summer travels and lazy days!! That being said, I'm pretty nervous about the kids being home all day. How about everyone else?

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------
1. Five ingredient strawberry crumble.

And 29 easy summer dinners (all of these look amazing).
-------
2. A new Reading, Watching, Listening post is up on my blog! Click here to check it out.
-------
3. Nine writers share their favorite books on motherhood.
Also, more books on motherhood via NPR.

More - Twelve books you should be reading right now. Best music of 2023 so far (yay Boy Genius!!). 20 Books to get lost in this summer. NY Times' Summer Books 2023.
------
4. Did anyone else listen to We Can Do Hard Things Episode 205, Why Good Photos Make Us Feel Bad? As a documentary family photographer, this podcast was pure gold. Glennon, Amanda, and Abby talk about how painful posed family photos can be and how ridiculous/sad it is that we try to capture perfect kids instead of real kids. I couldn't agree more.

Further, how great is Abby Wambach's commencement speech?
-------
5. I feel seen.
-------
6. I just discovered these "steal my vacation" blogposts and I'm obsessed.
-------
7. Summer in DC!! (I love all these ideas and things to do!)
Also, the best VA vacations for every type of family.

And, a very low key summer checklist.
-------
8. The value of "good enough" friends. Similar to the article's writer, I spend a lot of time lately thinking about how little my teens' lives resemble my own life as a teenager and trying to figure out how to feel about the new ways people interact. Anyone else struggling with this?
-------
9. The End - wow, these photos are amazing (and creepy).
------
10. I recently blogged some new wedding, engagement and family sessions. Click here to check it all out (if you're considering hiring me as a photographer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND perusing my work first).

RECENT REVIEWS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

We had Darcy photograph our wedding in March, and we could not have imagined a more perfect photographer and person to capture the day. Months before wedding day, Darcy took time to get to know us as a couple through phone calls, questionnaires, and our pre-wedding photoshoot. This definitely paid off on wedding day, as we were more comfortable in front of the camera and she was able to capture our family and friend dynamics perfectly. She specializes in documentary style photos (lots of candids), which we love because they truly encompass the spirit and motion of wedding day. Darcy’s attention to detail is evident in how she captures the small moments that become key memories. Our official wedding photoshoot was at the Lincoln Memorial - we ended up with beautiful posed shots and also candids of everything going on around us (like people dressed up as Founding Fathers that cheered us on or the bride and bridesmaids running to the National Park Service booth to collect our junior ranger badges). Going through her photos immediately transports us to that day. These photos are priceless. Thank you, Darcy, Christian, and Kelly!

P.S. - Darcy was the very first vendor we booked, and we booked most of our other vendors from her recommendations page on her website. All the vendors we worked with were fantastic. - Rebecca
