10 Happy Things for July

HAPPY JULY!

There's been a lot of unhappiness lately (fires, horrible SC decisions, articles like this) and it's all making me pretty sad.

So let's concentrate on the happy for a few minutes . . .

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------
1. It's never too late to travel the world with your best friend.
-------
2. I know a lot of people are raving about the movie Past Lives and I probably sound like a broken record. But it really is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I love how the cinematography created such a sense of place, especially at the Brooklyn carousel. And I loved all the long pauses in dialogue. (check out these GIFs). So good!!

Also currently Reading. Watching. Listening.
-------
3. Dresses with pockets.
------
4. I think I need this book.
-------
5. It's been a hard month, but this was a highlight!
-------
6. I hate that I live in a world where I have to say this explicitly (because shouldn't such things be assumed?), but hopefully everyone knows that I take pride in photographing people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, races, countries, sizes, ages, and everything else.

Unless you are mean, I really really do not like to photograph mean people.

-------
7. America is . . . (still making my way through these essays).
-------
8. The VA spas that make great girlfriend getaways If you ask me, a night at the Salamander coupled with a day of drinking at Greenhill Vineyards = the perfect easy staycation.

Also, how wonderful do all these long walks sound?
-------
9. Super easy summer salads.
------
10. I recently blogged some new wedding, engagement and family sessions. Click here to check it all out (if you're considering hiring me as a photographer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND perusing my work first).

BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENT -
FROM NOW ON 2% OF MY NET PROFITS WILL GO TO THE ACLU & PLANNED PARENTHOOD

I'll be honest, I'm not very happy about the recent SC decisions. NOT HAPPY AT ALL. And I've been struggling with how to address this. I'm still working on answers (any ideas?). But at the very least, I can start publicly giving money to causes I care about. I know 2% isn't a ton of money, but at least it's a start.

Do you have causes you care about? This is a reminder that I offer a pay-it-forward discount for families (see question #22) where you receive $50 off the cost of your session if you give the money to charity.

I also offer a similar, but larger discount for weddings clients. Contact me for details.

I AM ON VACATION UNTIL JULY 26

So please forgive me if it takes longer than usual to answer emails/questions.

COUPLES & FAMILIES - FALL IS FILLING UP.

My calendar is completely full through mid-September. But I still have weekday openings in late September, October, and November (don't forget that a seasonal rate increase occurs after September 15). I also have a few weekends open in November. Please get in touch SOON if you'd to put something on the calendar!!

More info on my rates here.

FOR WEDDINGS, 2023 IS FULL & I'M BOOKING INTO 2024.

RECENT REVIEWS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

We recently had our engagement session with Darcy. She is a DREAM! We had such a great experience with her and she had us cracking up the entire time.
The best part is, I still remember exactly how I felt during the time of the photos when I look at them.

Her photos are breathtaking and she captures the moment perfectly. We were SPEECHLESS when we went through our album. I bawled my eyes out!
I can't wait for Darcy to photograph our wedding. I know she's going to make it super special! - Joyce and Chaz

Darcy is absolutely phenomenal! I can't emphasize it enough and we would recommend to her anyone. After coming across Darcy's website and chatting with her by phone, we knew immediately that she would be a special part of our big day. Darcy sees the magical details and the candid moments you didn't even realize were there. She took the time to learn about who we were as a couple and captured the fun, funny, and loving tone of our wedding day magnificently. She was warm, communicative, and wonderful to work before throughout the process and I felt secure knowing our wedding memories were in her capable hands. The moment we received our photographs, the usual anxiety I have about getting photographed melted away. They're absolutely stunning...we've gone through them over and over again and know we'll cherish them for life. Having photographed at our venue before, she was even able to share tips and recommendations that I adored and incorporated :) Darcy goes above and beyond, she truly cares, and we can't wait to reach out to her again for future life milestones :) Thank you, Darcy! - Valerie

Darcy was incredible. She was professional, responsive, insightful, and kind. We had her do our engagement session as well as the wedding. The engagement session was our first professional photo shoot so we were nervous, but she made us feel so comfortable.

We had a separate wedding ceremony (family only) and larger reception party. Darcy helped us pick locations, figure out inclement weather plans, outfit color coordination, timing to catch the best lighting, among many other things. She was professional and discreet but still friendly on the day of the events.

We received the photos in a very reasonable amount of time given her workload! Needless to say, the photos are beautiful and they are truly an investment. We especially loved the candid moment captures. We loved working with Darcy and can’t recommend her enough for any special occasions! - Sari
