10 Happy Things for April

HAPPY APRIL & HAPPY SPRING!

Even though this was such a mild winter -  I'm so excited for spring and all of the fabulous weddings I'm photographing!!
__________

On another note, this was one of my favorite family sessions this year. When I look at the photos I see all of the exhaustion that goes into being a parent of young children, along with all of the love.

The best way to let me truly document your family is to embrace the chaos, be yourselves, and let the magic happen (because, trust me, there's SO MUCH MAGIC in ordinary life)! And maybe, for good measure, throw in some Mario Kart too!

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------

1. How good does this salad look? And this too. Another.  A few more.
-------
2. Currently Reading. Watching. Listening.
Also, 50 shows you can binge from start to finish on a flight.
-------
3. I blogged my extended family's trip to Universal Florida last month. Click here to check it out.
------
4. "But how do you read so much?" Super relatable. ("I think, when it comes to our disposable hours, we make time for the things we want to do. I read because it’s what I want to do, frequently to the exclusion of other things. I may think that I want to get into a solid pilates routine, or cook a meal out of a cook book, or go to a gallery opening, but in reality, I only want to want to. I will find ways, as I always do, to not do the other stuff, so that I can find time to read. So if you want to want to read, don’t force it. As long as you’re finding ways to nourish yourself, cut yourself some slack. Screw the books!")
-------
5. The unexpected power of random acts of kindness.
-------
6. Romantic DC Getaways. Or, if you're feeling bougie - a guide to all of DC's Michelin starred restaurants.
Also, All-Inclusive Southern Girlfriend Getaways.

And, how cute does this new cabin hotel in the Catskills look? Or six fun NYNC itineraries with kids.
-------
7. Looking for more great things to do in DC? My favorite "kid-friendly" blogger just started a new website, District Mix, geared towards fun things for adults in the District. Check it out!!

8. Wow, this instagram is amazing.

I'm obsessed with this Irving Penn portrait.

Further, on the subject of art, I loved this piece about Phyllida Barlow, who was "discovered" by the art world at age 73 (she passed away a few weeks ago). Before Barlow achieved fame, "she put her art into the world any way she could. Her CV from the mid-1980s lists the venues for what are grandly listed as “Solo Exhibitions”. They include “Finsbury Park school playground”; “Archway Road, abandoned house” and “Old Stocking Factory, Mare Street”. In the 1990s she made a series of buffoonish, absurd works that she installed, illicitly, on the street, or in friends’ houses. One was a kind of hat for an upright piano; another a sort of bunny-eared crown for a television; another a weird four-legged ovoid that sat on an ironing board. Sometimes she would simply “throw objects into the Thames at the dead of night”. When I asked what audience there was for these works, she said: “There was no audience at all. An audience of one.”

9. I just learned David Bryne has a website called "Reasons to Be Cheerful", which is delightful.

RECENT REVIEWS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

Darcy covered both our engagement shoot and wedding and my husband and I were blown away by the results. From the start, Darcy was so easy to work with - friendly, communicative, and flexible. She was able to coach us when we needed direction, and went with the flow when we had some non-traditional ideas (like a grand exit to Taco Bell). And above all else, she has a great eye for capturing beautiful moments we forgot (or didn't know) happened. Cannot recommend Darcy enough!- Hannah

We cannot say enough good things about Darcy (and I know all the reviews say that, but we really mean it). We really wanted our wedding photos to capture the mood and the energy of our ceremony and party and I'm so grateful we found Darcy because her style was perfect. Every single photo makes us so happy because it transports us back to the day. Instead of boring photos of our shoes and flowers, Darcy was in all the right places at the right time and captured amazing shots of laughing, dancing, singing, crying, etc, and we have hundreds we want to frame.

We had never taken professional photos before and were a little nervous about the more posed shots, but Darcy and her second shooter provided seamless direction and made us feel so comfortable. They kept it super low stress, scoped out great spots for photos, and we ended up having a great time taking pictures before the ceremony.

We've shared our digital album with many friends and family and every single person has complimented our amazing photographer. Do yourself a favor and book her asap! - Kira

We loved our family photos. The quality was amazing and the mix of candids and posed shots was perfect. Darcy was also really fun and thoughtful in working with our 3 kids (which can be tough). She had great ideas for bringing our youngest out of his shell. I'd highly recommend Darcy! - Michelle
