Our Close-to-Home July Roadtrips (Throughout Virginia)

Now I’m up in the air with the rain in my hair
I’ve got nowhere to go, so I can go anywhere
And it’ll be all right when the morning comes

Originally, we had so many plans for this summer (Yosemite, Olympic National Park, Portland, etc.) but 2020 hasn’t been what we thought it would be.

So, given the pandemic, we decided to spend July closer to home. On the upside, I’ve always wanted to explore Virginia and now we finally have time (seriously, this state is so gorgeous - mountains and beaches - what more could anyone want?). Plus, I love a road trip. I’m hoping to spend the next few months seeing more of what this state has to offer.

In July we visited -

  • Ravens Rock Trail (Bluemont, VA - approximately 1 hour from Arlington),

  • Hungry Mother State Park (Marion, VA - approximately 5 hours from Arlington),

  • Mountain Lake Lodge (i.e. the Dirty Dancing hotel) (Pembroke, VA, approximately 4.5 hours from Arlington), and

  • Assateague Island National Seashore (approximately 2.75 hours from Arlington).
