12 Happy Things for November

HAPPY NOVEMBER!

I can't even explain how thankful I am for everything lately, it's been an amazing fall.

And on a separate note - did you know that DC allows you to self-officiate your own wedding? How cool is that?

12 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something will make you smile.
-------

1. Good advice.
-------

2. Are you the same person you used to be?

"To say that you are the same person today that you were decades ago is absurd. A story that neatly divides your past into chapters may also be artificial. And yet there’s value in imposing order on chaos. It’s not just a matter of self-soothing: the future looms, and we must decide how to act based on the past. You can’t continue a story without first writing one."
-------

3. I'm obsessed with Swizz Beats and Alica Keys' home.
------

4. Entertainment suggestions - The books we read too late (and that we should read now). 10 award winning short story collections worth reading. A big juicy round up of fall recommendations. New Yorker's best books of 2022 (so far) (it's a big list).

Also I'm currently reading (and loving) this novel, written in 1931 but still so joyful today. And I cannot wait to dive into this author later this fall/winter.

Further, I really want to see this movie. And this show (next fall).
-------

5. These sculptures take "balloon art" to a whole new level.
-------

6. Fat bears and female friendships
-------

7. A few fall recipes I can't wait to try:

Brussels sprouts, apple, and pomegranate salad,
One pan sausage apple cabbage dinner,
The ultimate fall salad,
Butternut squash soup with apples,
Brunch salad,
Greens with roasted squash, tahini, and dukkah (I'm obsessed with dukkah lately).
-------

8. Tiny, Meaningless Things - Marisa Silver's short story made me cry while walking the dog, which was sort of embarrassing. ("Was there anything you could ever say to another person that would make a difference in the way things turned out?")
-------

9. I'm WAY behind on blogging (October is the peak of my busy season), but still managed to share some great engagements, families, and weddings.
------

10. Infinity jigsaw puzzles (not sure if these are cool or frustrating?)

Also, love some of the ideas on this teen gift list.
------

11. Why not rent a pirate ship airbnb on the Chesapeake?
-------

12. The value of link roundups (I, obviously, love link roundups).

"Link roundups are the mix tapes of the internet era, a way to immerse yourself in the point of view of another person. They’re also about presenting yourself in a particular way; highlighting the aspects of your complicated humanity that you want to showcase, and hiding the things you prefer to minimise. Mixtapes were traditionally an important step in courting rituals. Link roundups are often about appearing concerned and knowledgeable about the right things, while also showcasing the certain elements of your desired presentation. At its core, we curate our lists to communicate something about who we are. “

RECENT TESTIMONIALS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

We LOVE Darcy!! Her photos of our wedding are absolutely stunning and truly capture the feeling of the day. They're natural, artful, joyful, warm, and elegant. We will treasure them for years to come. Darcy scouted out some great backdrops and came up with terrific ideas on the fly. On top of the quality of the finished product, Darcy is a pleasure to work with. We cannot say enough good things about her and her work, nor can we recommend her highly enough. - Sala

Darcy photographed our wedding and then five years later our growing family. Her photos capture the emotions that are behind each image. When I revisit the photos I’m drawn right back to the moment, feelings and all. Her photos are truly special. - Lila

We couldn't be more pleased with our wedding photos. Darcy was easy to work with and a total pro, not breaking a sweat even when our 1.5 year old didn't want to cooperate. Highly recommend! - Nina
