10 Happy Things for August
/HAPPY AUGUST
I hope everyone is having a fun summer! We're currently in Chicago for Lollapalooza and the big family debate is Sabrina Carpenter or ASAP Rocky - I'm the deciding vote. Help??
10 HAPPY THINGS
As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
1. Have you seen the videos of the floating porcelain bowls in Paris? Don't they sound so pretty?
2. Currently Reading. Watching. Listening.
Also, re: entertainment suggestions - 34 of the Best Podcasts Ever Recorded. And Indiewire's list of the top 50 TV shows of the 2020 (so far) (lots of surprises on this list).
3. A few weeks ago I had a lymphathic massage and sculpting facial at the Tox DC and it was AMAZING!
Also, Dan and I spent a night in St. Michaels, MD at this new hotel and loved it (esp. their restaurant). Afterwards, we drove to Elkton, MD to meet up with friends and see Hurray for the Riff Raff at this small, wonderful venue.
More ideas for local fun: 100 Reasons to love DC right now. DC's Top 100 Restaurants. And - even better - DC's Most Fun Restaurants.
4. Funny or scary? You decide.
5. In July, our family spent a week fishing and hiking in Livingston, MT (you can see some pics here). I bought these bath salts from this store and I'm obsessed with the fragrance.
6. I love these ideas for personalizing your wedding day (though I don't think I could ever take photos while riding a bike, kudos to their photographer).
7. Just ten images - I need to try this.
8. I'm really in the mood for a short weekend in NYC. How awesome does this new spa look? And I really want to see Oh, Mary! and John Proctor is the Villain.
9. Recipes for when it's too hot to cook.
10. Not happy at all, but this (super) short film makes a powerful watch.
"My grandmother stopped me. Revenge is never right. “You don’t do that to other human beings,” she said, expecting better of her youngest grandson. “Come on.”
Further on the topic of human rights- genocide is not okay. Here are some suggestions for trying to help.

RECENT REVIEWS
As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

Darcy is absolutely phenomenal! I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone. She was so kindhearted, professional, friendly, and talented. Her documentary style of photography made our session feel so laid back, relaxed, and fun! She provided our pictures back very quickly and they turned out beautiful. Thank you, Darcy, for capturing this time in our family's life!- Joceyln

We booked Darcy for our May 2025 wedding and it was one of the best decisions we made for our big day! She was flexible in customizing a package that suited our needs and budget, sent us a very sweet gift at Christmastime, and made a real effort to get to know us and understand our vision for our wedding photos. She was also helpful in helping us finalize the wedding timeline. Day-of, she beautifully and single-handedly captured the day, wrangling our large family and many moving parts with relative ease. We were delighted to receive our photos (ahead of schedule!) and have been admiring them daily as we reminisce on our favorite day. If you're looking for a documentary (that often looks and feels editorial!) style of photography for your wedding, where expressions and the little moments and details are captured, Darcy is the photographer for you. - Abigail

Darcy is the absolute best, and I’m so glad we went with her as our wedding photographer! The photos are just perfect, they really captured all the fun we had on our wedding day in a way that felt very honest and very us. She sent us a very thorough questionnaire before the wedding, which I loved completing because it gave us a good opportunity to talk about what was important to us. After we got the pictures back, it was also so clear how much attention Darcy paid to all of our answers. She captured all the details that we cared about, and on the day of I didn’t even realize she was doing it. She was also just lovely to work with, very easy to communicate with, and on the day of the wedding she was simultaneously very organized in making sure that we got all the group photos we needed to but otherwise just letting us be ourselves and focus on having a good time. We will cherish all the pictures she took and are so thankful to have found her. - Emma
