10 Happy Things for August

HAPPY AUGUST

I hope everyone is having an amazing summer! And enjoying the long, warm days!

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something will make you smile.
-------

1. 21 Books to Read this Summer (from the Wash Post). 16 more summer reads. NPR's books we love usually comes out in winter, but this year they added summer reads too.

And I just finished this and loved it. (Also loved this podcast/interview with the author).
-------

2. Freya made this cake a few weeks ago and it was AMAZING!

Also, these plant based summer recipes look so good.
-------

3. KidFriendly DC has a ton of great suggestions for things to do with the kids this summer (we're trying to fit a lot of fun in before school starts).
------

4. Really good advice.
-------

5. Our family spent three weeks in Greece this summer (Hydra, Corfu, hiking through the Zagori region, Santorini, & Athens) which was so much fun! I blogged our trip here.
-------

6. I am obsessed with Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach's home
-------

7. "The Secret Art of the Family Photo" - "They’re a way of honoring these lives we get to lead on this earth, an attempt at fixing in time, and holding on to, people we loved and who loved us. Collectively, over time, they express feelings that no other kinds of photograph can. They express our gratitude."
-------

8. 20 Incredible Road Trips in the US.

Further, how fun would it be to hike/walk 435 miles around PEI?
-------

9. In praise of pointless goals - I have so many (some of which are rather embarrassing). What about everyone else?

Also, is this what "not selling out" looks like? (And if yes, it's pretty cool).
------

10. This is not happy in any way, but, nevertheless, an important read.

RECENT TESTIMONIALS

As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

We were so thrilled we hired Darcy to do our engagement and wedding photos! We weren't sure where we wanted to for engagement photos, and Darcy suggested she come to our neighborhood in DC and just walk around with us--it worked out perfectly, and Darcy was so flexible, easygoing, and great at scouting perfect photo locations on the fly. And the photos turned out great!

The wedding was more of the same, in the best way: Darcy was so easy to work with and was a wonderful calming presence. We wanted a lot of candids, and Darcy totally delivered! I don't know how she does it (I swear I didn't see her once after the ceremony) but she captured the most beautiful, hilarious moments of our friends and family: our families hugging right after the ceremony, our nephews running around during cocktail hour, and the world's best dance-floor photos. Darcy really captured all the joy of the day and I know we'll treasure her photos for years. - Addie

We will cherish Darcy’s photos of our wedding day. She truly captured how we and our guests FELT, not just how we looked — from my dad seeing me in my wedding dress for the first time to our surprise at an unexpected thunderstorm during our outdoor ceremony. Darcy is an extraordinary and talented photographer and a wonderful person. I loved working with her and I can’t recommend her highly enough! - Melissa

Darcy is fantastic! From the very beginning her relaxed demeanor made us feel comfortable. If we had any questions or concerns, she made sure to respond in a timely manner. Before our ceremony and reception, we filled out a questionnaire so she knew exactly what we were/were not looking for.

Our goal was to take more candid photos and Darcy did exactly that. It’s fun going through the photos and seeing all the amazing moments she was able to capture. We highly recommend Darcy as she is one of the best! - Jordan
