10 Happy Things for April (and a Business Update)

I wish I had paid more attention to it. My list of regrets may seem unusual, but who can know what they are, really. This is an interesting planet. It deserves all the attention you can give it.

10 HAPPY THINGS

Like several professional photographers, I have a lot more time these days. SO. MUCH. TIME. And while my instinct is to keep sharing photo sessions from prior to the pandemic, I feel like something else is needed.

For the last few weeks my friend, Linda, from Kidfriendly DC (if you aren’t already a subscriber, please check out her blog - it’s a wonderful DC resource) has posted daily lists of 5 cool things (mostly related to parenting, but often on other subjects as well). And every morning I look forward to her emails!

So I decided to share my own list:

  1. I know almost everyone has heard about Cowboy Tim by now, but if you haven’t check him out. His posts make me happy.

  2. Humans of New York has quarantine stories guaranteed to make you cry (but in a good way).

  3. Freya and I cannot stop eating blistered shishito peppers. I buy them at Trader Joes and serve them with ranch dressing. Today I made this banana bread and everyone loved it (having a freezer full of frozen bananas finally paid off). Further, Dinner a Love Story is posting regularly during the pandemic with lots of new recipes and links.

  4. I know some people aren’t comfortable leaving the house at all (which totally make sense), but if you do feel like venturing out most state parks are still open and not too crowded. We hiked Mason Neck last weekend and it felt so wonderful to be outside.

  5. Two of our family’s favorite easy/quick games are Goblet and Coup (and, lately, poker). I’m thinking about checking out some other games on this list.

  6. Dan and I just finished binge-watching Ozark season 3 and LOVED IT. I was mixed on Ozark season 1, but I’m glad I kept watching because each season gets better and better. (I also really love the cinematography - creative camera angles and no studio lighting).

  7. The New York Times asked famous authors to list “books that bring comfort.” I’m working through some of their suggestions. I just finished Writers & Lovers (a novel) which was such a great, happy read.

  8. Josh Ritter’s music has inspired me for a long time now (we had tickets to see him a few weeks ago, but (of course) the event was canceled). So his facebook live performance made my night. He says these at-home concerts will become a weekly thing. I can’t wait. The Tallest Man on Earth is also amazing me with his online presence lately. I think this is the new date night!!

  9. Peloton’s app is free for 90 days and I’m TOTALLY addicted. I don’t have the bike or treadmill, but luckily the app offers hundreds (thousands?) of 10-60 minute workouts that don’t require any equipment - from yoga to HIIT.

  10. Have you ever read the blog Colossal? They have lots of great art, design, etc. A great resource now that museums are closed.

Anyone else have fun things to share? PLEASE!!!

BUSINESS UPDATE

On a totally different note, thank you so much to all of my clients (future and past) who have reached out to see how I’m doing!!

In answer to several questions, here is a quick summary:

  1. I AM NOT currently scheduling family sessions, as I’m waiting to see whether life returns to “normal” in June. I’ll send out a newsletter when I open back up.

  2. I AM scheduling fall 2020 weddings and 2021 weddings. I still have a few weekend dates available for this autumn (though not many), please contact me if interested or forward this to friends.

  3. Regarding how I’m doing as a business, I’m lonely but fine. If you do want to help, however, (and this applies to all small businesses) I would be SO HAPPY if you would please leave me a google review (if you have worked with me before and liked the photos). It makes such a huge difference and helps new clients find me. And, as always, please share this blogpost/newletter with friends and family who might be interested.

I hope I succeeded in taking everyone’s mind of the pandemic, at least for a few minutes.

Please stay healthy and keep in touch!!
